Edit.

I thought it would be interesting to post the same image with lens corrections (distortion and vignetting removed):

Nikon D850 + Nikon 105mm f/1.4 E.

(distortion and vignetting corrected)

The vignetting at f/1.4 is very noticeable (the distortion is rather minimal, so you won’t see much of a difference in that respect); whether to correct the vignetting or not is of course a matter of preference.

  1. Beautiful, Peter. We always wish for such nice light for our subjects but you know how to find it. A fine-looking fellow.

  2. Where are these corrections being done? In the LR profiles or in camera w/ jpeg’s? Do you think that anything else is being done in addition to vignette and distortion removal? It almost looks to me like there is a tiny loss of what I’d call micro contrast in the corrected version or is that all psychological as a result of the eye being pulled to the relatively brighter face due to darkened corners?

All things considered, I kind of like the uncorrected version. With the corrected, I’d probably put about half the natural vignette back in in post. Cool.

  3. You can not ruin a good photo! His eyes rule, with or without corrections! For me marginal changes!
