For whats its worth I agree with your decision. The second allows the face to feel like it has slightly more light wrapped around to the shadow side so opens up your wifes face more.
Would have been intersting with a reflector on that side purely to see the effect. But thats just someting else to carry and use 😕.

I prefer the revisited version….but the image is a beautiful rendering of beauty regardless of tweaks. The uncropped version emphasizes the direct and “central” gaze between the two of you which is another sweet detail for me. A loving and lovely portrait and, as always, well-titled.
I think I too prefer the processing of the second version, but find myself wanting a slightly tighter crop…possibly a 5×7 or 4×5 version of the exact same picture (maybe 9/16ths of an inch off the right side?)
