Peter I have been practising focusing my M6 that I purchased recently to enter the RF world, in situations which have involved movement and candid moments. Fun but my goodness challenging……….
I am in awe how you manage to shoot wide open and nail movement and candid moments!!
You are the bar….it’s high…but I know where i need to get to 🙂
Lovely image and one to smile at fondly when your children grow up.
Hello Andrew,
Well I’m here to tell you (and show you) it not only definitely can be done, but once you get the hang of it, your manual focusing will be more reliable than the most sophisticated auto-focus systems in the world.
The key is anticipating, and using strategies like pre-focusing. In this case, I used both.
Hope that helps,
Peter.
Thanks for the prompt and detailed response. I have read your initial M9 for Sports Photography and these shots as well provide encouragement! The fact you shoot wide open makes this precision all the more incredible.
I find if there is an opportunity to pre-focus with a subject at that particular distance it’s ok, however when you don’t have that luxury you really need to know your lens focal length and aperture relationship down to a tee……the challenging part!
I am going through some You Tube videos as well around zone focusing (not sunny and 16 :-)) to understand the distances…certainly learning.
That said practise, practise, practise is required and looking forward to it.

Thank you Kevin.
This looks 3D!
Are you sure you ain’t usin’ one of them newfangled projector-camera thingies with the liquid crystal glasses? And a laser? This has to be taken with a laser!

This is true, even when shooting film rangefinders (please see my previous post: https://prosophos.com/2012/06/08/the-m3-for-kids-sports-featured-on-steve-huffs-site/)
