Couldn’t agree more. For low ISO, I’d take the Merrills, high ISO the Monochrom, but for overall balance, it’s film… 🙂

A specific group of models of the Sigma DP class of cameras. They use a Foveon sensor, which needs no Bayer interpolation (read: guessing details by mathematical trickery). The Merrill models used the highest resolution sensors that resolved equally across all colors. Since Sigma changed the design of the Foveon sensors after the Merrills, many fans consider the Merrills the best implementation of the Foveon idea…

The Merrill models represented the pinnacle of Foveon cameras. I could tell immediately that image quality was compromised with subsequent releases.
