Each month I submit photos to De Mello Palheta Coffee Roasters for their social media use.
They compensate me for my work, and they are then free to use the images as they wish.
Lately, the new De Mello curator has been libearally applying Instagram filter effects to said images.

My take on all this?
Just guess, LOL.

All the “magic” is gone…here a wonderful “organic coffee” …there some “soil” or what 😉
Ha ha! “Soil”… so true.
Wow! Just wow!
That’s what I thought!
Oh, I can guess all right! I mean, for goodness sakes, Instagram filters do not add anything to the photo. It’s just a pointless option to make people feel like they made a useful decision. And filtered photos actually do not get as much engagement as straight ones. They’re ugly, too.
The thing is, most people (even people who frequent this site!) view photos on the small-ish screens of their smartphone, where bold/contrasty/saturated photos tend to stand out more than they’re less flashy brethren. So, I “get it”… I just don’t like it.
I think it’s called “marketing”! LOL
Definitely marketing… IG is one massive marketing machine.
Your take on this? I am guessing you will stop submitting images.
Oh dear… you know me well then. I submitted my resignation last night. In all fairness, however, I was thinking of stopping for a long time now, so I can’t really blame it on this.
It’s been a fun ride, and they have been good to me (always allowing me to do whatever I wanted), but I think I’ve explored everything I could explore in their space.
Their loss Peter, but time to move on to new projects, where you have full artistic control.
Thank you Kostas.
