When the M240 arrived, I predicted right here on this blog that after its successor is eventually released the M240 will quickly be forgotten, whereas the M9 will continue to be coveted by many.
Although some readers supported my prediction, many directed a lot of anger at me.
Well, interestingly, the next M is now being called the M10 by Leica.
It’s as if the M240 never existed.

Peter: I am sure few of your readers appreciate your comment “I told you so” What we want to read is the gallant effort you have led for Leica to bring back the CCD sensor has succeeded. I promise you whatever they call the camera no one will care, we just want an improved Leica with a CCD sensor reflecting today’s technology.
Yes, I know few of the readers will appreciate my “I told you so” comment.
As for Leica bringing back a CCD M camera, that will not be happening. Not this time, and probably not ever. They have succumbed to the herd mentality. CMOS chips are cheaper to buy too.
I had posted about another company that was going to step in and fill the void, but information regarding this has dried up.
My advice to people that love the M9 look: stock up on used M9/M-E/Monochrom cameras. That’s what I’ve done.
So if this has the same sensor as the Q and the SL, will it change many peoples minds to move from an M9 to the M10? Curious to see what the consensus is.
The sensor used in both of those cameras is an improvement over the M240 in my opinion. We may even see a another incremental improvement in it, though lets assume it’s the same.
Hi Andy. I am trying to keep an open mind. If the M10 sensor approximates the SL output, I might be interested. In that case I’d only be considering it for its presumed operational improvements over the M9, as opposed to the image quality. My guess, however, is that I will be sticking with what I have, given it works for me.
Surely there has to be a way to put the M240’s shutter mechanism into the M9? That would solve one of the major problems.
I am interested in the M10. I currently have an M9 which is great in good light and a Sony A7 mark2. While the Sony is easy to use in low light, the files leave me very uninspired. I can imagine selling the Sony and owning a M9 & M10. The rendering of skin tones on the M240 worried me but that is likely to be improved in the M10. I also like the idea of being able to use a higher res EVF attachment.
People still do have 240’s – it is still a very good camera…def not forgotten.
Where is the new CCD M you told us was about to be announced?
