I’m sincerely touched.

A few of you were quite generous, and a few others have also contributed in the past.  You’ve basically subsidized the site for the thousands who view it daily.  It doesn’t seem quite fair does it?

I therefore want to thank you in this additional way:

I will reveal the identity of the “undisclosed” 55-yr-old lens that I’ve been shooting with recently, so that if you’re interested in finding one, you have a good chance of getting a great copy at a very reasonable price (it currently can be found for less than the price of a Leica lens hood).

I know once I reveal the identify of the lens on this site the price will shoot up, so you have a head-start.

Starting this week, I will send a personal email to one [EDIT: several] of you, each day — in the order listed above.  Matteo will find out first.

Sincerely,

—Peter.

  1. Dear Peter,
I am happy that folks have and will step up to the extent they can. You certainly have earned and deserve the support you politely requested. In this world of easy internet clicks and open access, it is all too easy to take your generous website…hospitality, actually…. for granted. I expect others will share my sentiment that I regret not responding until asked. You can never be fully paid for the photographic education and inspiration you offer to so many people including me. I hope that at least you are getting enough support to feel your time and considerable expertise is well appreciated and highly valued. I also hope donations to your site are arriving with no expected strings attached. What you have been offering all along is its own reward. Thank you very much for allowing me and others to visit your website. I learn about cameras, lenses and photography of course but….and…. I also find beauty, joy, and exceptional humanity here, too..

  2. Thanks to you Peter,
Your blog has always been an inspiration to me. The artistic work behind your pictures is an invaluable treasure. And a great thank you goes also to your beautiful family!
I’m looking forward to hearing from you about the undisclosed lens…
    M

  3. Dear Peter,
congratulation to this long overdue conclusion! Most of us know how carefully you are and you don´t want to arouse the false impression – but this is the right direction. You (and your familiy) work hard and consistent on such a high level and we all enjoy your “unique blog of art and love!”
As I wrote you weeks ago, I would wish that you can get so much donation that you can buy the Leica Q and other equipment to demonstrate how good or even “bad” these things are..in my case I still have my M9 and no M 240- and I owe this to you!

So folks, let us enjoy Peter´s blog any longer and donate..we can only win!..and Peter will have hopefully more creative freedom! 🙂

  4. Best of luck, Peter. We would hate to see your voice extinguished due to cost….your friend, long time lurker, occaisonal contributor, DPreview buddy from years gone by, when wounds were more fresh and inspiration flowed freely…well, for you, the inspiration always flows…All the best, and hope to see an open sign soon.

  5. No need to reveal the name of the Lens to me 😉 just keep this wonderful site running as long as you have fun to do so. It is simply inspiring. All the best from germany to you and your family!

  6. Hi,
I’m really eager to know the name of the undisclosed lens, I hope you will be able to go trough the list soon 😀
Keep up the good work, i’m really enjoying your site and your photographs. Cheers.

  7. Hi Peter,

Thank you so much for your kind sharing of your lovely portrets. I bravely follow your blog and there’s so much to learn looking at them.

I’m thrilled about the unclosed lenses and looking forward to the reveal. Hope to hear from you soon.

    Kind Regards,

    Quitama
