Cool photo. Maybe you ought to shoot theatre/dance/concerts more? Problem is, you might find you need a lens longer than 50mm. Heaven forbid! 😛 I suppose you’d be happy with a 90mm, but what about a 135mm?

I don’t like the ‘texture’ of this shot, though. For some reason it’s lacking in richness that film usually has, and that digital can often have, too. It also feels a bit ‘flat’ to me – not in tonality, but in dimensionality. This of course is not the fault of the photographer. It’s just a technical note.

Thanks for your thoughts. With regards to the “flat”-ness, I have to work with what I’m given: i.e. gym lighting (in this context you can’t expect “golden hour” sunset photographs…). Also, the 50mm offers plenty of reach for my needs most of the time… but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t sometimes need/want 135mm or even 90mm.

…While I actually -love- the “flatness” and the rendering. I think it is perfectly suited to the staging and the atmosphere. (Not to say it -is- flat…just well-seen and reproduced!)
