This time you keep it Peter. It makes a great combination with that 35 Summarit and the M-E. These might be three of the lowest rated Leica M products by the Leica and/or internetfora crowd. But the fun is that these are three of the greatest jewels of the present Leica catalog. Happy digital shooting:-)

Let us know your thoughts on this lens. At the ridiculously low (for Leica) price point, I’d be interested in hearing about your experiences thus far! I’m thinking between the 90 APO, 75 Cron, or the 75 Summarit. Cheers.

No offense. In investing, I always tried to avoid frictional loss (money lost due to un-necessary trading), it applies to my gears as well. Frictional loss due to gear trading always cost >10% for lens and >15% for camera each time. A few trading each years is quite significant. I don’t mean its significant to your net wealth, but significant to gear sum.

Looking back, for Leica gears, Interestingly, I always discover the different magic of a lens at different stage of my photography. Once I discover it, I seldom sold my lens. If it is out of my ‘gear’ budget, I live within the limit of current gears. That may not apply to your philosophy, but to be frank, I really love to see more of your works on Noct, 24 Summilux and other legendary lens. Anyway, love to see 75mm back. 35+75 is a nice combo, even stated in Leica official website!

No offense taken. In fact, thank you for your honest comments.

You’re technically correct of course. And your point about appreciating lenses at different times (so it’s better to hang on to them) is very valid.

I will say, however, that if I hadn’t traded my gear over the years, I would never have experienced all of the cameras/lenses I had the pleasure of using, because I could not justify (to myself) owning 100 pieces of equipment. Some people reading this, on the other hand, actually own dozens of lenses and cameras… I just can’t do that… it feels uncomfortable.

And equipment like the Mamiya RZ67 would never have entered my life, because I wouldn’t have been able to justify (again, to myself) purchasing a Plustek 120 scanner to go along with it, in this day-and-age of “film is dying” mentality (I don’t believe that, by the way), if I hadn’t sold some of my Leica gear.

As for the Noctilux 0.95, 24 Summilux, etc., it is unlikely that I will ever be able to afford them again. I’m okay with that… the film gear is keeping me satisfied. Specifically, the portraiture I’m getting from the RZ67 is more than I could have ever hoped to achieve with the Noct 0.95. And my Mamiya 110/2.8 lens cost me less than a Leica lens hood.

I don’t know what the future holds, but knowing myself, I’m sure it will involve more experimentation. But now that I’ve written that, it may instead involve sticking with my current gear!

      Thanks again Sam,

      Peter.

As Randy Pausch said, life is about maximizing fun. No matter what, wish we all laugh not just in the end but our journey. Thanks Peter and have Fun!

        Cheers,

Peter we are on the same page here. As much as I loved my MM and 50 lux and 24 Elmar, when wanting to dedicate more time to film and the Mamiya 7 I just couldn’t justify having it sitting on the shelf. Over $12,000 worth of equipment being used “occasionally” did not sit well with me. I’ve even sold my Zeiss Ikon and only have the one camera for the foreseeable future with two lenses.

Even though I have just started using them (so early days) no digital capability, low ISO capability and lack of a fast lens does not really bother me. They will always be there if I really want to move back in this direction.

As for these summarit and elmar lenses they are little gems!

Congrats on acquiring the 75mm summarit-m again. I just recently picked up a 90mm summarit-m for my on set photography. Truly blown away with the quality.
