Just been doing the same in our house! I haven’t recorded the moment like you have here!

New lens? I thought you had the Color Skopar 2.5? A preference between the two of any sort?

Peter and everybody, allow me this comaprison:

    Leica M( M9, M-E..etc)
… is like running through life “easy”, “in love”, “everytime ready” , “for now” with your young Lady…!:-) ..breathe and have your finger on the pulse of the time!

    Mamiya/ MF
…is like being pregnant! Everything need to be planned, a little bit more effort, you know in your mind it is worth for, waiting, stunning result in future as we fathers and mothers all know!

Sometimes you are pregnant, sometimes you like the easy way of life!

But most important love the life you live and love the images you make! The moment counts! Only the moment!

Congratulations Peter to your Leica M-E! Can be a stepdaughter, but we all know Cinderella has her charm in the end and the prince is happy with her..and i hope you don´t have to cut your toe( or finger) to fit!

    Andreas

My medium format film shooting has definitely decreased my spontaneous shot output. Hence the move to the M-E (I lost my 50/1.4 ASPH in the process…, but have gained the 35 Summarit and another [as of yet undisclosed] lens).

I don’t normally inject as much estrogen into my description of cameras as some of you Leica-smitten gentlemen, but the M8/M8/M-E are definitely my Sirens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siren_%28mythology%29).

Still, if I had to choose, my current “desert island” gear would be the Mamiya RZ67 + Mamiya 110/2.8.

      —Peter.

..and Sirens have no estrogen, no no!
The desert island, with or without lab?

Sorry, just in mood for teasing :-)….

Really, your dream team seems to be the visual optimum!

Re: the sirens and estrogen…. well, I had to play along!

Yes, the desert Island has a lab… it’s my little table and changing bag and some chemicals flown in from New York and Toronto!

The desert island is sounding more and more like my damp basement 🙂

        Good morning Peter,

The problem with the Desert Island analogy is that you are alone! The pictures you take (and show us) are almost all close-up and personal. So, just what would you use the 110mm etc for? To use for metal parts for the boat you will be constructing to escape, perhaps? ( I do know some who would actually like to be stranded on desert island, but I am not one of them.)

Also an aside: Re the Color Skopar; I would propose a new definition of long-gone to be a Prosophos long-gone equates to any period of time greater than 6 minutes!

Also: Reading your circumnavigation and eventual return to the CCD/Leica fold has be fascinating and illuminating, thank you so much..

        Kind regards

        John

Clearly a better report than most of mine….as in I remember running from, not having a quiet sitting moment with my mom.

…Pleasure to have in the class but could do better if he applied himself

    😉

Looks great. Love Andreas’s post and Jason’s (my own were opposite…”did fine but what a noisome argumentative pain in class”)

    🙂

Interesting choice: getting rid of the 50 Lux…You warned me once against that very move!

Might I say, however, that the new Nokton f/1.5 is a very worthy (and extremely capable) substitute. I believe I am actually more smitten with it at present, due to its lightness.

While we’re on the subject of estrogen: I must say that the 35 Summarit is really a “cute” and tiny lens. (And looks great on the camera…especially with the lens hood on!)

    😉

(Funny though, how f/2.5 doesn’t seem “all that fast” when you’re used to f/1.4)

Anyway, glad to see you back in the M9 camp–my money was on an A7s.

I am surprised to learn the Mamiya would be your desert island camera–frankly it is just too unwieldy!

Nice tones here Peter. Congrats to the family on finishing out the year.

    All the best,
    M.

–You’re right… I’ve owned about 10 of them, so one day I’ll probably have another. I just couldn’t pull the trigger on a new camera without selling something; also, I wanted to expand below and above the 50 mark for now…

Might I say, however, that the new Nokton f/1.5 is a very worthy (and extremely capable) substitute. I believe I am actually more smitten with it at present, due to its lightness.

–I like it too, except for the distortion. But I see it as a worthy replacement, if I should get a hankering for another fast 50.

–I missed the first one I had… I still prefer it to the bigger and heavier Summicron. It renders delicately and nicely too. The summarit line of lenses are in fact more “Leica-like” (small, capable optics) than their fast aperture brethren (heavy, larger).

(Funny though, how f/2.5 doesn’t seem “all that fast” when you’re used to f/1.4)

–But… if you’ve been shooting with a Mamiya 80mm f/4 as I have lately, it seems plenty fast!

Anyway, glad to see you back in the M9 camp–my money was on an A7s.

–I can’t dig that Sony vibe… they need to make their cameras more like — cameras. Besides, did I mention that the CCD in the M9/M-E is still the best digital sensor out there as of June 2014?

I am surprised to learn the Mamiya would be your desert island camera–frankly it is just too unwieldy!

–The Mamiya RZ67/110/Tri-X combo trounces (with respect to image quality) any other piece of photo gear I’ve ever had the pleasure of using. Ironically, it’s the cheapest piece of gear I own…

Nice tones here Peter. Congrats to the family on finishing out the year.

–Thanks Mark. My congratulations to you and your family as well.

      —Peter.
