For some reason, my open letter to Leica has been getting a lot of traffic today.

Who should sign it?
–
Anyone who wants an updated CCD sensor in a future Leica M model. Anyone who places emphasis on rangefinder simplicity and also values high image quality at low-to-moderate ISO values.
Yes, Leica, incorporate the ergonomic improvements of the M240, but help differentiate the brand from the mediocre CMOS landscape by bringing back an updated CCD sensor.
Please bring back a superior, simple, and reliable still-photography camera worthy of the Leica brand.
(If you’re reading this and are in agreement, please click on the Dear Leica dot below and sign your name in the comments section.)
Thanks,
—Peter.

With regard to the CCD/CMOS discussion, the following article at Luminous Landscape is worth a read:
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/the_phase_one_iq250_cmos_fully_realized.shtml
An interesting read, thank you Philip.
It looks as if they’ve improved the CMOS output. To what extent remains to be seen, although the sample images (small as they are) look very good.
I find this statement in the article, by Niels (from Phase One,) most hopeful:
“I have fought with color from CMOS cameras for many, many years. I’ve always assumed that CMOS itself was not the issue, but rather the issue was the priorities of the companies using CMOS sensors…But now we know: yes we can. We can make CMOS sing.”
Hopefully, it’s true.
