wow….this will be interesting! I was disappointed when you sold the 28mm, even though 50 is the sweet spot.

I feel images like 1928 (e.g. “Step”, “1928”, “Shadows”,etc) bring out your eye in a unique way, which we see much less of compared to your first love; family and people (which is obviously fantastic :-)).

But at the same time I’m guessing after a month…it’ll be gone ;-)…….

Good guess, Andrew, about the lens being gone in a month… but wrong :).

      Hopefully.

In all seriousness, this is a fantastic optic… I really wasn’t expecting it based on the sample images I’d seen online. The first image I’m posting was taken last night (still processing it) and it’s already one of my personal favourites.

I’m not remembering the images cited; however, your general body of work has struck me as that of a very deep thinker. In a way your images are the tip of the iceberg. It’s entertaining, moving for me as the viewer.

      Well MJ1, here’s my take…

I already know after 24 hrs of using this lens that central sharpness is great, but sharpness in the corners – at least at wide open apertures – is not so great. If you photograph people, as I do, then that’s a perfect combination. If you photograph landscapes, then you won’t like that (in that case, the 21mm SE would be your lens of choice).

But what’s really impressing me about the 24mm Summilux is:

      (1) central sharpness and microcontrast (typically Leica)
      (2) bokeh
      (3) “3D effect” rendering (because of (1) and the corner softening).
      (4) The unworldly ability to “see” and *retain* detail in the shadows, despite photographing scenes with wide dynamic range. Carefully examine the image I’ll be posting in the next 24- 48 hrs to see what I mean…

Good thoughts there. Yes it’s not an ideal landscape lens but does perform pretty good. I have a Zeiss 18mm for that though…
I do like landscapes though and have owned the 21 SE before…great lens.

Do you have an ND filter for it yet? Took me 3 month wait from B&H to get mine special order for that Series 7!

Both the 24 lux and Elmarit have tempted me for a long time though when i moved to the M9 from M8 they became a luxurious idea)..
Rolo from the Leica forum has used the Elmarit so well and there’s a photo of Nuns he took with it that sticks in my mind and which I love..
Noah Addis had a thing about the 24 Lux and then had some things to say about it which i’ll try to find..
