Moon and Rainbow over Barbados

This was taken in the early morning, at first light.

The scene was beautiful enough, with the moon over the palm trees, but as I was setting up to photograph, a rainbow appeared and stayed long enough for me to fire off a few shots… and then it disappeared as quickly as it had emerged.  It never came back.

Definitely one of Life’s Little Moments.

Frames.

We exist in single frames of time, but they pass quickly and seamlessly and so we are unaware of most of them; occasionally, the discrete click of a camera shutter marks the capture of one.

And so we are bestowed with the power to linger over a moment, a memory.

Sometimes we laugh, sometimes we cry, and sometimes we struggle to remember… but no matter how we are affected, we can’t help but think that our frames are finite, our frames are numbered.

My 21 favourites from ’12.

Favourite, Inspiration, Life's Little Moments

This week, I looked back at all of my images from 2012.

As I do every year, I tried to pick out my favourites (the last time I did this, I posted my 11 from 2011).

This time, I ended up with 21 images (well, really 21 + 1 ;)).

They are not necessarily my technical best, and they are not necessarily my most popular, but they are all near and dear to my heart — mostly because they involve my family.

And they are all examples of what I like to call, Life’s Little Moments.

I hope you enjoy them.

—Peter.

I’m pleased with this image… the light, the mood.

And — curiously — her profile mirrors the contours of the lighthouse:

I hadn’t noticed it until my wife pointed it out.

Admittedly, our brains are always seeking to make order of the world around us, but the two main elements in this image — photographically speaking —complete each other.  This sort of harmony ultimately resonates with the viewer, whether they know it or not.

Halo [Flare].

I’m of course referencing the ring of light found in religious and literary iconography.

The dramatic halo effect in this image is courtesy of the optical “flaw” known as lens flaresomething I’ve harnessed in the past to convey my view of life as a dream.
