Holy cow. Love the sharpness and depth. My favorite images are simple and strong. This is it.
This is my favourite lens right now, for the “sharpness and depth” you mention.
I’m glad you commented Dave, as I was thinking about you when I posted this… was wondering how the pandemic has affected you. Hope you and your family are well.
Hey Peter! Being on the front lines can be stressful! None of our friends or family want to interact, they worry that I may be a carrier. We are expecting our spike here in Omaha in about 12-14 days. Hopefully it doesn’t get too bad. Our main hospital here, UNMC, is one of the leading institutions on all of this. So it’s comforting knowing that is right down the street if needed. Hope you and your family are well.
Is that still allowed? (Only half joking!)
Lovely shot, and as usual, perfect exposure.
The only thing I don’t like is the lens – I’m not a fan of how it renders the background. It’s not bad, it’s just not special. Just IMHO! Context matters, and some scenes just won’t work with some lenses.
Thanks for the honest assessment. I’m curious what doesn’t work for you with respect to the background… I am VERY pleased with this lens’ rendering. Perfection.
Have a look at what seems to be guttering at the base of the upper storey balcony. It looks a bit… I don’t know, flat? Two dimensional? Plasticky? I don’t know. Same with the eaves/gutters at the perimeter of the roof.
The bokeh is smooth, no question. But, overall, it’s just not something I’m in love with. It certainly is not terrible though.
So, after reading your comment, I took my 50/1.8S, and smashed it on the ground.
I’ll come to pick up leftovers 😊.
I have been admiring your photos for a long, long time even though I do not own Leica.
Please continue to brighten my days!
I think I had to comment,
best regards
Milan
Ha ha, Milan! Karim should get first choice of the pieces, since he was the cause of the destruction 😂
In all seriousness, I’m glad you decided to comment — thank you for brightening my day.
(And Karim, your ongoing commentary is certainly appreciated, even when I don’t see things as you do 👍🏻)
Hey no problem. I know that if you did smash you lens you’d get it insured first! LOL
