I was going to comment that the rendering here really gave the M9 (M8) a run for it’s money…but as I look back over all the “Honeys” on your site, it is clear that the M’s still retain the edge as far as overall “delicacy” goes.

Of course, for Honey, my money is still here:

(In other words: If you’ve got the Honey…and the time…)

    You get it.

      Thanks Mark.

You’re right, and in fact I did the same comparison (Merrill vs. M9/M8) and came to the same conclusion.

However, not so fast!!!… (say I to you, and also to my previous self — if you follow what I”m saying).

In actuality, this latest “Honey” was processed within the first few days of my DP3 ownership, when I had less of a handle on how to deal with the files. The upshot: I hadn’t processed the the original RAW file to its full potential. I’ve realized that the default contrast setting on SPP (Sigma’s RAW converter) is too high for portraits, and tonality is diminished as a result.

By the way, I agree about the film version being really nice. However, have you checked out the value of our dollar lately? Buying film is going to be more expensive going forward.

      Still…hmmm….
