I really impress that the plastic color is mininize in your recent retouch. But still, although different, m240 is a great camera. Many of my friends so keep both camera.

We cheat it like 2 different kind of film.

    Peter,

Seeing that you’ve gone back to the M240, I’ve just gone through your April posts to find the reason. I see that you still prefer CCD sensor, so I assume that you may have some problem with the reliability of the M9, as there is some mention of that. I just got a Walter Eyepiece, which, in my case is to correct for mild astigmatism as, otherwise, I have good distance vision. With the astigmatism correction, I find that my M9-P is off in the vertical alignment of the rangefinder. I’m trying to find out whether I can fix that myself. Perhaps the M240 would we be more robust in this respect, but I still can’t swallow the color rendition. I see that you’re now taking the approach of not trying to use the M9 color rendition as a target, which makes sense. I’ll be interested in how you fare with this.

So, what was the reason that brought you back to the M240?

      Hi Mitch,

Nice to have you back here commenting.

In answer to your question, reliability issues with my M9 (mostly, like you, with the rangefinder) frustrated me to the point of giving up on it. Then came a failed attempt to go back to DSLRs. So, that brought me to the M240.

And yes, I’m no longer attempting to emulate M9 colour — IMHO it can’t be done. I’ve been fine-tuning my approach to processing M240 files (with respect to colour), but progress has been slow, mostly because the weather here has been drab and overcast and I’ve ended up converting to B&W anyway.

    Peter,

Thanks for the response. You’re probably right about not being able to emulate M9 color. Marc Williams (“fotografz”) has said something similar; also, he thinks that in processing M240 files he constantly had to “fix” things to get what he wanted in terms of skin tones, but often couldn’t achieve that . The funny thing is that so many M240 owners claim that you can get M9 color rendition by post-processing, which their pictures prove is not possible. Perhaps it’s just a defensive reflex.

In any case, I’ll be following along to see how you fare with M240 processing.
