I still have the plastic protective sheet on the front 🙂
The footprint is certainly much smaller than the Epson V700. Excellent.
For comparison purposes, here is the Plustek 120 from above, with a standard 3-hole punch and my recent Polaroid photo sitting on top of it:

Now, the question is:
Will it perform as well as the V700?

Hurry up 🙂
Tomorrow… I promise. I’m re-scanning my Smile image.
Hi Peter,
I congratulate you on your film efforts, but you may want to stay away from the Plustek as well…that is unless you have time to burn.
It is sooo slow.
Also, since film developing and such will already add so much time (pleasurable as it may be) I encourage you to consider scanning with a digital SLR instead. Faster, quite simple and by all accounts the quality beats or at least equals the best drumscans if it’s done properly.
Also leaves a lot more time for other things.
The Plustek is OK for the occasional scan, but believe me when I say that over time it will drive you crazy. All scanners will because they are just too slow.
Just my two cents, have fun,
Stephan
Thanks Stephen! One of the reasons I was second-guessing getting the Plustek 120 was that I had read the same thing — that it was SLOW.
However, I’m doing a scan right now and it is going pretty quickly (I have an old iMac from 2009). There’s a new version of SilverFast 8 for the Plustek 120 that was (coincidentally) released today, and uploaded it prior to using the scanner… maybe that has positively influenced my experience?
Besides, I no longer have an dSLR, and even if I did, I wouldn’t want to set-up a dedicated rig to scan. I really like the small footprint of this scanner and when I’m not using it I can slide it towards the corner of my (small) desk, against the wall.
Now, if I was a commercial lab having to do a large volume of scans a day, then maybe I’d be looking for other options.
I’m really impressed with this scanner however.
—Peter.
If it is like my Plustek 8100 you soon realise that the smallest file sizes are more than adequate for jpg web use, no need for multiple exposure, etc. etc.
And therefore take a lot less time to process.
