Really really like this one Peter. The light, composition and of course your daughter as the subject. But also the 2.8. It allows that texture in the wall to come into the image as well which ads another dimension. But ALSO the PP! It looks a little different to your normal B&W and I think it’s great, particularly for this image.

    2 days in…I’m excited!!

Thanks Andrew. I’m really enjoying the B&W conversions with the M240. The additional dynamic range over the M9 helps. I’d still give the edge to the M9 with respect to colour though.

As for the window light portrait, it’s my go-to area in the house when it’s cold and dark outside. I have a couple more images from yesterday I’ll post.

Jon, the 21mm focal length is surprisingly versatile. The trick of course is to get close to your subject, and have a suitable background. Having said that, my approach with 50mm is the same!

    Dear Peter,

I love this shot! Can’t wait on color versions of your hand from the M. Are you exploring the PP posibilities before you post one?

    Regards, Jeffrey

      Thank you Jeffrey!

I haven’t posted any colour shots, partly because I’m exploring, and partly because the light has been poor here and most of the images have lent themselves to a B&W treatment. The next image will be a colour one though.

    Hi Peter,

It comes as no surprise to me that this wonderful image has all the same great qualities of your others of the this type. Same photog, same vision = same image — camera is irrelevant. I am very sure, if it made any difference to anyone, that had you posted this with “M9 and Zeiss 21 @ f/2.8” no one would have known any difference. I’m also sure once you have had enough time to let your brain forget the EXACT signature of the M9 files that you will carry on to enjoy the much more refined and fluid workings of the new M. Not trying to sell it, just hopefully giving you an additional little nudge of approval to carry on trying it with an open mind.

    Enjoy.

    🙂

That’s very good of you to write Jason.

Despite my preference for CCD sensor rendering, I’ve always believed (and written) that such technicalities are trivial as compared to vision, composition, lighting, perspective, etc…

My “brain” *is* trying to forget the signature of M9 files, but my heart is having a little bit of trouble letting go!
