“Who knows what true loneliness is – not the conventional word but the naked terror? To the lonely themselves it wears a mask. The most miserable outcast hugs some memory or some illusion.”
—Joseph Conrad.

Shades of Kertesz. Nice.
Cheers Jon.
Loneliness is an intriguing yet sad (not sad for everyone…) predicament (for want of a better word), relative to others.
Stricken with illness, anxiety, mental issues or grief; these are all things the majority live with at some stage in our lives (loneliness can be just a part of these challenges).
Yet loneliness is non of these things for many people. For many it is simply how life unfolds.
On a brighter note Peter, your house seems to present some wonderful opportunities for light to diffuse. Perhaps it’s those nice dimpled glass windows.
Loneliness is something I often want and need to explore.
As for the house, well, the light is often nearly absent during the winter (and this year, the spring) but the light was just right in this scene for only a few seconds… I literally was able to get only one shot before it disappeared. All the subsequent photographs were not nearly as interesting. I think about one of Conrad’s other quotes, when we photographers are trying to capture such light: “We live in the flicker…”.
My my! It is a rather sad specimen, isn’t it? (The bouquet, not the picture!)
So I guess if I need an editor, then you need a housekeeper??
🙂
Greetings from someplace warm!
M.
We can only assume they were overlooked on the way out the door to Barbados 🙂
Very funny, gentlemen.
And Mark, wherever “warm” place you find yourself, make sure you get some good images!
FYI Peter and anyone else who lives in Toronto, Sebastio Salgado will be visiting you in May and his latest work on display until September this year.

He will be speaking on the 2nd of May at The Royal Ontario Museum.
Thanks Andrew.
I was just writing an email where I was admitting that I don’t follow other “famous” photographers’ work, and am really only familiar with HCB. So it might be interesting to check out SS’s work.
On another note, I took your personal request to heart and contacted SS via his Facebook site to request his participation in my “Featured Photographer” series (https://prosophos.com/featured-and-guest-photographers/).
My request was deleted within an hour of it being posted.
Oh well, I tried.
Peter.
Sorry, but this made me laugh out loud. Salgado is indeed one of photography’s Gods and frankly just the fact he’s on Facebook is odd enough. However, he’s not without critics.
I enjoy your site.
Yes, it’s the kind of crazy thing I’d do. I figure that he’s a person (not a God), made of flesh and blood, and maybe he would have been touched by the sincerity of the request.
My guess is that he never saw my request, and it was deleted by some custodian of the site.
I actually tried to find a direct email for him, but encountered only agencies that field requests.
Thanks for enjoying my site, and feel free to write to me 🙂
Peter.
Wow…good on you for trying and thank you! Interesting that he happens to be showing in his work in Toronto and speaking given the email the other day!
More from an informative aspect he has moved away from using a RF and film to Canon SLR. His latest piece of work, GENESIS, about the environment certainly has a digital look to it. I’m sure Canon helped make the decision an easier one…..
