So Peter….early days I know but a little curious how you are feeling, shooting with this focal length? Being a little further away from the subject combined with the fact that 50mm is your “go to” length, is it sitting right with you, enjoying it, etc…?

It may be too early to answer this question.

Some people feel they need to “connected” or get a connection to the subject and hence use (for example) a 50mm. For me personally I prefer to give people some space and let them “do their thing”.

    Lovely photo.

      Hi Andrew. Good question.

I will always see the world through 50mm “eyes” so my go-to lens will remain the 50/1.4. Having said that, the need to change perspective or sometimes content will drive my use of other focal lengths. With these early attempts at using the 90/2 and Monochrom, you are witnessing a sort-of extended contact sheet of my efforts. It’s only been my first weekend with both new pieces of gear, but I’m already starting to feel more comfortable.

    Très cher Peter,

I’m really glad you’ve taken this Monochrom …

As we all know, it will never replace your M3 and rendering this one … But I am convinced today that MMonochrom, mark his time …

As you know, I also owns one and has been for a few months now! I’m really amazed by the quality of this MMonochrom files.

Congratulations on the purchase of the new equipment (I included the new Apo 90) ….

    Enjoy it!

    Your friend.

    Hugues.

PS: these last 2 images shown me the impression that you’re treating us very quickly ….

      Mon ami Hugues,

You are always very kind. The potential for the Monochrom was very evident to me when I started viewing images such as yours online. I’m at the nascent stages of using this camera, but in the last 48 hrs I’ve already made rapid progress.

Thank you so much for your always thoughtful and supportive comments, dear Hugues.

      Peter.

Very nice! Funny you chose this one as I got one a few weeks ago and one of my first shots was with my 3 year old blowing out a candle! Love the way the Monochrom picks up the subtle tones and the light of the candle.
