“Snack”: hadn’t been on your site for a while and saw this just this morning. I’ve been photogaphing for 50 years and immediately recognized this as film.. No question. Then I scrolled down and saw your “Stack” of books in B&W and I instantly recognized it as digital. Finally, I saw your competition: to my eyes, as good as digital is now adays, it just doesn’t have the feel, look and texture of film. (I’m sure that in a blind test, w/someone who is terrific at digital manipulation in B&W, I would not pass….) But, that’s fine.

Although my newly ordered Canon 5D MKIII will arrive in a couple of days, I’m glad that I kept my Contax N1 w/Zeiss glass (24-85 and a 400/4 lenses) so I can run some film.

I truly enjoy your imagery, as you know; so thank-you for your continual posting.

Also, I’m glad to see you enjoying your family-it’s great to see in these days…..

    Have great weekend!

Thank you Jeff. I’m glad you were able to stop by for a view. And yes, sometimes the film images declare themselves in an unmistakable way.

      Congratulations on your new camera.

Wonderful as usual Peter and this and other film images you have posted of late caused me to order a M6 and a 50 Summilux today from my NY based Leica dealer. I was thinking about a Monochrom, but I saw and studied a somewhat obscure French language link on Steve Huff’s Blog (buried a comment section) that compared with images the M6 and Monochrom both with a 50 Summilux and was swayed to try film again after all these years. It should be fun.

Thanks again for all your work on this site.

    Take care,

    Matt

      Long time no see Matt!

Congratulations on the M6! I saw the link you’re referring to, and thought the M Monochrom and M6 did a pretty good job emulating each other!

Enjoy, and please share your images when you get a chance.

        Hi Peter,

Just picked up my first roll from the M6 from TIW (shot on a rain soaked day in T.O. last Saturday). I posted a few on my new site if you would like to take a look. Any thoughts, good or bad are welcome.

        Take care,

        Matt

Great! I just left a comment on your site. How did you find the service at TIW? I used them a few years ago with mixed results. That’s what prompted me to start processing my film.

Thanks Peter for your kind words on my site. As for TIW, I have been pretty happy with them, but I might look for other local options. They both process and scan for me so it has been a real time saver. At some point I would like to do it myself again after all these years of not processing. I last did it in a school darkroom in the early 80’s. Your posts on processing could not have been better written – maybe if and when your scanning post goes up, I will try it all myself.

Thank you Matt. I’m not sure if I’ll ever write the scanning articles. It’s very time consuming to write “how-to” posts and the voluntary donation system as a form of compensation doesn’t really work. Frankly, as much as I enjoy writing educational posts, my time is best served photographing and teaching.
