Yes, just over a year, in fact. Crazy how distorted time has become… A sure sign I’m getting older.
Thank you Guy. I actually processed this in B&W but the colour version was more powerful. I’m finding that to be true with most of my images lately, not sure why, but it’s funny you mentioned that.
Absolutely gorgeous photograph. Truly. You have captured the beauty of youth, innocence. The placement of the child in the road alludes to her journey through life: behind her the road is relatively short while that which I’d in front of her leads out of the frame into the unknown (future).
Without question, this is THE best photograph, in all regards, that I have seen in years.

One more observation: how could I have missed the import of the dotted line that ends just behind her. It adds significantly to what I was trying to say in my prior comment.
In addition, the vignetting adds strongly to a sense of time past which is juxtaposed by the presence of her young age.
To my eyes and fifty years of photographing, this is one of just a handful of perfect captures.
Jeff, I am deeply humbled. You have paid me the highest form of compliment I can think of as a photographer (to “see” the vision beyond the image), and I am truly moved by your words – thank you.

One more thought: her pensive pose also adds to the feelings of, “What will life bring as I go down this road?” and brings together the entirety of the image. Also, by facing forward in this frame versus the first picture in this series where she is running “away” from the lens, she is moving “forward” in life. Perhaps she has stopped and become contemplative.
My only critique is: what is that bright, pinpoint (sort of) light in the upper left hand corner of the picture? As the natural light source is to her left & front, my guess is that it might be a lighted lamppost. With that removed, the “forest” behind her, which by nature gives birth and life, (and only to be complicated by man’s questionable input on this earth [as shown by the road]) lends credence to her relatively new presence here on (earth).

Wonderful, timeless photo Peter. There’s a lot here to draw your interest, but something about the wind in her hair, the tones, and the background of the road curving away just works so well together, and can be interpreted as symbolic of many things (as shown by some other comments here). Lovely stuff.
