Peter, with this being a very reasonably priced (for Leica) and useful focal length lens, I would imagine new M users would be very interested. I have one and like it a lot.

Thanks Mike. Yes, I recall you do indeed have this lens and I was thinking along the same lines, i.e., the “reasonable” Leica price and the potential interest from new M users. I like mine too… I really only write about lenses I like 🙂 Thanks for your input!

Steve Huff says the 75mm Summarit is sharper than his 50 Summilux ASPH (http://bit.ly/zLjLPa). On the other hand Ken Rockwell, although never tried the lens himself, says don’t bother with the 75 Summarit because you can get a 90 for a fraction of the price (http://bit.ly/xgHnMh). This is one of the few Leica lenses I can actually afford new, so I would be very interested in a write-up and how it compares with others. If you do write this lens up, can you add your thoughts on how it compares with a 90?

There are 4 M Summarit lenses– 35,50,75& 90. I presently own 3 of them– the 75mm is the one I don’t have. It takes extroadinarily great pics.

I’d be interested in what made you decide on this focal length.

Peter, I agree with Mike and you this is a “reasonable” Leica price and a surprising preformed. I use this lens to shoot rehearsals for Santa Fe Pro Musica in not the best lighting conditions. One thing I found that helps me is a 1.25 magnifier.

Hi Peter, initially I considered this lens but as I didn’t expect to shoot this focal length too often I purchased the 75mm VC Heliar Classic f/1.8, which I have to say I’ve found to be a wonderful lens. I’d be really interested to read a write up from you on the 75mm Summarit. Cheers Jason

Yes Peter, always interested in Leica glass, especially “reasonably” priced lenses. This lens is a bit long in focal length for my M8 but I plan on moving to M9, so I would be interested on your write-up.

When coming from SLR I had seen 75mm a less useful focal length, so I started with a 35 + 50 + 90 setup. Although those lenses are great, the 90mm is in my eyes somewhat cumbersome in focussing and framing without magnifier. I find crops from my 50mm more convincing than most of the (wide open) 90mm shots. This brings 75mm back to my mind and the Summarit is one potential choice (affordable, available, lightweight etc.). I certainly would love to read your opinion on that little lens.

(I have to admit that your write-up on the Nokton 1.2/35mm finally triggered my purchase of a version II copy ;-))

Would love to hear what you have to say in regards to the 75 Summarit. And see how it compares to the Voigtlander 75 1.8.

Looks like the interest is there, but it also looks like many of you already own it and enjoy using it, or have already read about it, so I’m not sure anything I would have to say would be of value.

And, I would only be able to compare it against the 75 Summilux (my only other 75mm lens), but I’m not a fan of tedious lens comparisons – as most of you know – so the comparisons would be brief.

Perhaps then, a “mini-report” on it, discussing what about this lens I enjoy, and why I use 75mm lenses in the first place, would be a suitable post. I’ll work on it and then and try to post something within a week.

Thanks for all of your helpful comments.
