Dear Peter,
I find this picture of particular relevance. I could just say that it is beautiful, but I want to add a little more depth to my comment. Composition and timing are spot on, considering that you were pretty close to the action. Photographic language is disclosed here at its core principles; no ‘applied aesthetics’ is needed to reinforce the visual message. Not an easy task.
It seems you had the chance of traveling, using the M8 time to time, and enjoying a set of relatively unobstructive lenses. These are all details that I can interpret as healthy indicators of experiencing (and having fun with) photography at best.
From what I can say, it is all that’s counts for me. I spent one year and a half shooting film only (because I was disappointed by the digital photographic means), and a few months without shooting at all. Now I feel better… ☺
This is why I hope my ramblings are not too far from the truth, as I simply love your work (and I can safely say that I’m not the only one).
My very best wishes for you and your beautiful family
M
Dear Matteo, nice to hear from you again. Thank you for your compliment.
I’m pleased that you noticed the simplicity here – from the equipment chosen to the final “output”. And yes, I was having fun!
Incidentally, you are correct about the timing — it’s one of the most difficult action shots I’ve ever photographed.
Very beautiful picture, Peter. The contrast between the grace of the hands and the strength of the man’s body is striking. May I ask where it was?

Somewhere in Ontario… I cannot say more than that.
Really? I thought it was somewhere in Spain or in the south of France!
