Prospekt’s March

Smoke is rising from the houses
People burying their dead…
I ask you, if you remember
“Prospekt, how could I forget?”

    It’s that time of year again. It’s taken me a while to decide to comment, but I’ll leave you with the last verse from Tom Waits’ and Kathleen Brennan’s song “Hold On” that I heard first on Amber Rubarth’s CD “Sessions from the 17th Ward” which is fabulous. You can find the 1999 Waits version (and Amber’s) on the web:

    “Down by the Riverside Motel
    It’s ten below and fallin’;
    Outside the 99 cent store
    She closed her eyes and started swaying;

    But it’s so hard to dance that way
    When it’s cold and there’s no music,
    Your old hometown’s so far away
    But inside your head a record’s playin’

    A song called hold on,
    Hold on, you gotta hold on,
    Take my hand and stand right here,
    You gotta hold on, hold on”…
